What are Toxins?
Toxins, or neurotoxins, are injectable treatments that are categorized because of the way they interact with the body. These injectables deliver a neurotoxin, namely the botulinum toxin, to muscles in the desired treatment area. Once injected, these neurotoxins block nerve signals that cause the muscles to contract. As a result, the facial muscles will relax, and the wrinkles they cause will fade shortly after. We currently offer the following neurotoxin injectable treatments:

What Can Toxins Be Used For?
Injectable toxins are primarily used to relax facial wrinkles, delivering a more youthful appearance. In addition to alleviating these wrinkles, however, they can also be used as a preventative technique to stop wrinkles before they form or worsen. The types of wrinkles that these treatments can address include:
- Frown lines
- Crow’s feet
- Forehead wrinkles
The application of neurotoxins extends beyond cosmetics, as well. Additional areas where neurotoxins can be used include:
- Hyperhidrosis (underarm sweating)
- Gummy smile
- Chin wrinkles and dimpling
- Bunny lines on the nose
- Lip flip (lifts the upper lip to give a fuller appearance)
How is the Toxin Injection Performed?
Injectable toxin treatments are a simple and brief process consisting of a few injections. Prior to the injections, we will assess your facial wrinkles and facial movements to determine the optimal location for toxin injections. Then, the injections will be administered to the appropriate areas. This entire visit is completed in less than 30 minutes.
Is There Any Downtime After Injectable Toxins?
There is no downtime required after injectable toxin treatments! You will be able to return to your usual activities immediately after your appointment. You may experience some minor swelling, bruising or redness in the treatment area, but these symptoms are brief and typically fade within a few days.
What Results Can I Expect from Toxin Injections?
Injectable toxins produce results within 10 to 12 days, although you may begin to notice results sooner. You will begin to notice these results as the facial muscles relax and wrinkles fade away. Once the results are visible, you can expect them to last between 3 and 4 months. Fortunately, these results can be easily maintained or prolonged with touch-up treatments.
What is the Difference Between Toxin Treatments?
Most injectable toxins serve the same purpose, which leads patients to wonder about the tangible differences between each treatment. In truth, most toxin treatments are almost identical. They use the same ingredients, which means they are equally effective. However, there are slight variations in the manufacturing of each product. This means that different injectables can produce slightly different results for different patients. At Fayetteville Plastic Surgery & Cape Fear Aesthetics, we have extensive experience with injectable toxins and their subtle differences. During your consultation, we will be able to assess your needs and determine the single toxin treatment that will provide you with optimal results.
