What to Expect?

Congratulations on scheduling your Consultation! If this isn’t your first time, you’re probably wondering what now?

Choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon is one of the most beneficial decisions you will make, and for that reason you should pick a surgeon with extensive experience performing cosmetic procedures which will help achieve safe, effective and beautiful results. Having a cosmetic consultation is vitally important because you will be able to have an equal parts interview, where you can evaluate the skills, background and experience of your surgeon.

Here is the basic run-down of what your cosmetic consultation should include:

Upon arrival, you will check in with the front desk concierge. If you’ve completed your paperwork ahead of time they will collect it now, or you may spend a few minutes filling out intake paperwork.

Next, you will meet with one of our nurses who will review your medical history, and help you get settled. Be sure to be thorough and honest about your medical history, as well as any medications, supplements or recreational drugs you are taking. It’s crucial that we have a clear understanding to ensure your safety.

Afterwards, you will meet with our cosmetic surgeon and you will have an opportunity to ask your questions. Also expect to talk about:

  •  What you’d want to change about your body, and why?
  • Your goals, what do you want to look like after surgery? And any specific changes.
  • Which procedures can help you achieve your cosmetic goals and what results you can expect.
  • What’s involved in the surgery (anesthesia type, incisions, recovery and timeframe) along with the risks and possible complications from surgery.

Next, the surgeon will examine your areas of concern. You will remain in your clothes for most of your consultation. If your area of concern is on your breasts or body, the surgeon will leave the room while you change into a robe and will return to examine the area following the initial discussion. Your nurse will remain in the room during your examination and this is also where you can expect to take before photos. Your examination will include measurements but you won’t have to complete any blood work.

Lastly, you will also go over surgical quotes and financing options. We will provide a detailed price quote of the procedure(s) you are considering at the conclusion of your consultation. Make sure to verify this quote provides every cost you will incur, including surgeon’s, anesthesia, and facility fees.  If you would like to prepare in advance, check out our Financing Options  page to learn more about the financing companies that are available.

That will conclude the consultation process itself, but please note that equally as important as scheduling your consultation- is knowing the right questions to ask while meeting with our plastic surgeon. The plastic surgeon should answer any and all questions you may have, so we recommend you research the procedure you are interested in to get an understanding of the basics, and also bring a notebook and a pen to your appointment.

Example of questions to ask during your consultation:

  • How long have you been performing plastic surgery?
  • Are you board-certified?
  • Which surgery would you recommend to best achieve the results I’m after?
  • How frequently do you perform these procedures?
  • How and where will the surgery be performed?
  • Are there any other options to address my issues?

Also, please allow enough travel time to arrive at Cape Fear Aesthetics at the designated arrival time, which is typically one hour prior to your surgery’s scheduled start time.
