Rhinoplasty is a surgery to reshape the nose. It can change the angle of the nose; alter the tip of the nose; or correct bumps, indentations, or other defects in the nose. Rhinoplasty may also correct structural problems with the nose that cause chronic congestion and breathing problems.
Procedure
The Rhinoplasty operation, Dr. Dickerson will perform the surgery at the hospital. The doctor will make incisions to access the bone and cartilage that support the bone. Based on the desired results from the patient, some bone and cartilage may be removed. Then when the doctor has rearranged and reshaped the bone and cartilage, the skin and tissue is re draped over the structure of the nose. A splint is placed outside the nose to support the new shape of the nose as it heals. Rhinoplasty is done using general anesthesia at the hospital.
Recovery
After Rhinoplasty surgery, you may have swelling that comes and goes for the first year. For a few days splints and gauze packing will most likely support the nose as it starts to heal. Medications are administered for your comfort during the surgical procedure.
