What is Lesion and Mole Removal?
Skin lesions and other growths that develop on the skin are often harmless, but in some cases, they can cause discomfort. In rare cases, these growths can be precancerous, meaning that they will develop into skin cancer if left untreated. Lesion and mole removal utilizes a number of techniques to remove these growths in a way that will preserve the health of the surrounding skin. With lesion and mole removal treatments, patients can achieve smoother, clearer skin and eliminate developing signs of skin cancer.
What Can Be Treated With Lesion and Mole Removal?
In addition to removing skin lesions and moles, this treatment can address the following skin conditions:
- Lumps or bumps
- Pimples
- Lipomas
- Skin tags
- Warts
How is Lesion and Mole Removal Performed?
There are a number of methods used for lesion and mole removal. The exact method used will depend on the skin growth being treated and the patient's individual needs. Most often, these growths will be removed with cryotherapy. This technique involves using liquid nitrogen to freeze off the targeted skin growth, causing it to blister and fall off. We may also recommend the excision method. This involves cutting the entire skin lesion out of the skin to ensure complete removal. This is often the method of choice if there is a concern that the growth is precancerous. In this case, we will use the excision method followed by a biopsy of the removed lesion. All techniques for lesion and mole removal are quite tolerable, but a topical anesthetic can be used to help eliminate any discomfort during treatment. These treatments typically take less than 30 minutes.
How is Recovery After Lesion and Mole Removal?
Lesion and mole removal treatments generally only affect small areas of the body, so they do not interfere with your ability to work or perform other normal activities. However, the treated area can still take up to two weeks to recover from treatment. This is especially true for patients who have had lesions removed with an excision technique, as it will take a few weeks for the wound to fully heal.
