What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty or Eyelid surgery is a surgical procedure which improves the appearance and functionality of the eyelids. This procedure repairs droopy eyelids and may even involve removing excess skin, muscle and fat. Severely sagging skin around your eyes can reduce your peripheral vision (side vision), especially the upper and outer parts of your field of vision, but also the bottom eyelids as well. Blepharoplasty can reduce or eliminate vision problems and help make your eyes appear younger and more alert.

Blepharoplasty procedure is performed at an accredited facility and takes less than an hour to perform. Medications are administered during procedure and usually performed using local anesthesia combined with sedation, through general anesthesia can be used as well. If you are having surgery on your upper and lower eyelids your surgeon will generally work on the upper eyelids first. He or she will remove excess skin, muscle and possibly fat. For the lower eyelids your surgeon will redistribute fat along with muscle and sagging skin and this can be done without making an incision on the outside of the face.
