What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels are a skin treatment used to treat wrinkles, acne, scars, discolored skin and imperfections and can be done at different depths, from light to deep. The chemical solution applied to the skin causes the skin to peel off layers, which will reveal a more youthful skin. This new skin is smoother, brighter and healthier.

What Are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are medical-grade facial treatments that can address a number of cosmetic concerns by removing damaged skin in order to reveal healthy, bright skin underneath. These treatments are an excellent alternative to laser rejuvenation or microdermabrasion, offering dramatic rejuvenation results that can reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles while also stimulating collagen production. Our chemical peels can be used to treat sun damage, acne and acne scars, signs of aging, hyperpigmentation, and more. At Cape Fear Aesthetics, we use PCA peels, which allows us to build a personalized treatment for each patient in order to preserve and highlight the unique features of their skin.

Trichloroacetic Acid Peel

A trichloroacetic acid peel, often called a TCA peel, is a chemical peel that is primarily made up of the TCA chemical. It has been used to perform chemical peels for over 20 years, and is the preferred chemical peel of many medical professionals. When applied to the skin, it causes the top layer of skin cells to dry up and peel off over the days following treatment. This reveals the undamaged skin underneath, which has a smoother feel and a brighter tone.

20-30% TCA Peel

We offer both 20% and 30% TCA peels, each providing varying levels of strength based on the concentration of TCA. Depending on the unique needs of your skin, you may need a chemical peel that is more aggressive or gentler to safely achieve your desired results. We specialize in a range of TCA peels in order to offer chemical peels that are best suited for each individual.

Deep Peel

In addition to TCA peels, we offer deep peels which use laser energy to provide significant skin exfoliation. This allows us to treat more stubborn skin conditions that may not respond fully to a standard chemical peel. During your consultation, we will assess your skin and your cosmetic goals to determine the best chemical peel technique for you.

Complexion Perfection Duo

This treatment involves using microdermabrasion with a low to medium depth chemical peel. This combination method allows for deeper penetration of the peel ingredients for a more effective treatment to reduce acne breakouts, soften animation lines, and even out overall tone and texture of the skin.

**Your first chemical peel with us includes a post-procedure kit! This includes medical grade skin care safe to use after a chemical peel to cleanse, hydrate and protect your healing skin.

What is Recovery Like After a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels work by causing the skin to dry up and peel off, resulting in the growth of healthy skin underneath. This means that there is a brief period after your treatment where you can expect the skin to be dry, flaky, and somewhat sensitive. This period lasts about one week after your chemical peel. During this time, it is important to avoid excessive sun exposure because the skin will be highly sensitive to sunlight. However, these symptoms should not affect your ability to work and perform other normal activities, so you can expect to resume those activities within a day or two of treatment.

When Will I Notice Results from My Chemical Peel?

After the damaged skin peels off, you will begin to notice results from your chemical peel. As the healthy skin underneath becomes visible, you will notice a smoother feel, a clearer complexion, and a more radiant skin tone. This will help address most cosmetic concerns, and patients can enjoy the rejuvenating results of their chemical peel for up to two months after treatment.
