Forehead Reduction Fayetteville, NC

Forehead reduction is a procedure in which your hairline is lowered through surgery to achieve a smaller forehead look and create more balanced facial proportions and, a much fuller hairline. At Cape Fear Aesthetics, we offer forehead reduction surgery to the men and women living in Sanford, Lumberton, Cape Fear and the surrounding areas of North Carolina.

What is forehead reduction?

Forehead reduction surgery also called hairline lowering, shortens the distance between your hairline and eyebrows by moving the scalp down and forward, positioning your hairline lower on the forehead.

Some of the benefits of the forehead reductions are:

  • Creates a denser hairline resulting in fuller looking hair.
  • Immediate and permanent results
  • Making the forehead look smaller will boost your self esteem

Who’s a good candidate for forehead reduction?

The best candidates for forehead reduction surgery have:

  • a high forehead
  • good scalp mobility
  • minimal to no frontal hairline thinning and
  • a desire to change the proportions of their facial features.

The procedure may be performed in conjunction with a brow lift to reduce sagging and smooth wrinkles or to contour a prominent forehead bone, which can also shorten the brow-to-hairline distance.

Forehead reduction can be performed in men and women – although most common in women – not trying to combat a receding hairline from male or female pattern baldness. Male patients who are appropriate candidates are typically older, with no family history of hair loss.

What is the difference between Forehead Reduction and Hair transplant?

Forehead reduction surgery is ideal for patients who find it hard to conceal their high forehead as they are born with a high hairline. Whereas hair transplant is a hair restoration technique that involves transplanting healthy, functional hair follicles into an area that is lacking hair volume. This allows patients to achieve completely natural hair growth that can reverse hair loss and hair thinning. To learn more about hair restoration read more here.

What can I expect from the forehead reduction procedure?

Forehead reduction surgery typically takes one to three hours, depending on surgical technique and the specifics of the procedure.

An incision is made on the area of your planned new hairline and the hair-bearing scalp is mobilized, then moved forward one to three centimeters.  Any excess forehead skin is removed and the incision is closed with two layers of stiches. A surgical pressure dressing will be applied for 24 to 48 hours to prevent swelling.

What is Recovery Like After a Forehead Reduction?

Recovery varies from patient to patient, but most can resume normal activities within two days. We recommend avoiding strenuous activities for the first week and to keep the head elevated even while sleeping, to minimize swelling and bruising.

It takes about six months for the incision area to fully heal and fade. The scar can be easily hidden as hair follicles are buried under the incision, allowing for hair to grow in front of it and effectively hiding scarring.

Are the Results from Forehead Reduction Permanent?

Yes. Once the hairline is lowered it stays in this position for life.
