Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation or
enlargement is a plastic surgery procedure designed to increase breast size.
It is a very effective way to change breast contour for women who have smaller
bust lines or who have lost breast size due to the effects of child bearing
and pregnancy.
Breast implant surgery
is usually done as an outpatient surgical procedure without the need for hospitalization.
Most of the time local anesthesia with IV sedation is used; however, general
anesthesia can also be used if one prefers this. Initial recovery time is about
10 to 14 days. Most women are able to fully resume most normal activities after
about one month. The procedure itself will vary according to the specific anatomy
of the breast, surrounding soft tissue and rib cage. The size and shape of the
implant and it's position in the body, i.e. under the breast or under the muscle
depends upon the breast problem being corrected. The procedure chosen will be
designed to give the most aesthetic breast size and shape.
Most women feel the change
in breast contour after augmentation makes them feel more normal and enhances
their self-esteem. As with any plastic surgical procedure, there are complications
and limitations. Dr. Miller or Mary Lee Cudd will discuss these in detail during the consultation.
Only then should one decide if augmentation is something that they want to
have.
